In order to grasp the core concept of preventive conservation of cultural heritage property, yet also the vastness of its definitions, we must understand its meanings and evolution through the history of conservation theory. We may then conclude that the preventive attitude lies at the very basis of protection of cultural heritage resources.

From the 26th to 30th May, 2008, the second SPRECOMAH seminar was held in Val de Loire, with the following four session themes:
A. Floods and heritage, and other natural disasters
B. Preventing the deterioration of materials in heritage structures
C. Preventive actions in relation to the interaction between the environment and the architectural heritage (including: materials, structures and groups of structures)
D. Comparative study of preventive architectural conservation systems

From the 11th to 16th of June, 2007, around 40 participants were accepted to the seminar as a platform where young researchers with specialization in conservation, experienced researcher who carried out research on innovative preventive conservation tools or methodologies and experienced professionals in the field of preventive (architectural) conservation could share their practices and researches. Since the seminar aims at wide-spreading the knowledge on preventive conservation practice to the largest public possible, representatives of local/regional organisations/authorities with connections to other organizations and/or owners of heritage also attended and made contribution.
